Question Surface smoothing

Hello,

I have an stack of FIB slices and I did the 3D reconstruction.
I have some problems with "steps" between images.
The surface that I get is this:

And I'm trying to smooth these steps, but without loosing too much information. I'm looking for some kind of interpolation.
The figures are carbides, so they have a very straight and geometrical forms. Smooth surface produces me a rounded image, and with simplifier I have to erase a lot of information to remove this "steps".

There are any tool to do what I'm looking for?

Thank you!
Kind regards.

Hi mtvinas,

Did you align the FIB stack before segmentation?

Hi Shawn,

Yes, I did the alignment, but I have some troubles getting the images in FIB that I don't know how to solve.

Periodically, I have some 'slash' on the slices that goes from up to down (so If I see all the images consecutively, the animation is like a 'waterfall' -- image changes from top to bottom like a refreshing screen effect).
That's annoying, and it's making a distortion on the bottom of the 3D reconstruction.

So, my unsolved solutions are: trying to fix 2D slices, or doing a surface smoothing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Is the problem described in your last message the same as the picture you've shown in your first message?

The way you described in your last message reminded me "curtaining" artifact which is common to FIB, which is different from "misalignment".

Coming back to your first picture, what alignment option did you use? It still appears to be as a misalignment issue. Can you send me a copy of your data? I will email you seperately to give you a ftp server address.

Yes, maybe I don't explained very well.

This is not an Avizo issue: this is a problem obtaining FIB images; there's some 'waterfall' effect, that produces this 'steps'. The thing I'm trying to do is minimize this effect with somekind of interpolation. This is not a misalignment issue: is caused by FIB images.

Thanks for your attention.

Regards.
